A lot of people want thick lots, but don’t know the pros and cons of thicker deadlocks. I have 36 locs. I’m here to share my experience with thick lots.

Pros:

1) Retwist hair extremely fast. Usually about 10-20 minutes. Compared to 1-3 hours.

2) Don’t worry about roots visibly thinning.

3) People with traditional locs usually combine multiple locs into a set when doing pipe cleaners, bantu knots, twist outs, and braid out hairstyles to create a fuller look. People with thick locs don’t have to put multiple locs together for a fuller appearance.

4) Ponytails look full and have a lot of volume.

5) Also locs look like an afro when curly after being in bantu knots.

6) You can use funky unique jewelry (rings, cuffs, chains etc) in your hair to personalize your locs. You can wear pearls in your hair for a classy look. Also add the bohemian flower crowns to your gorgeous hair.

Cons:
1) A lot of loc jewelers do not make loc jewelry for bigger sized locs.

2) When you retwist your locs, it can unravel within 2-4 days. Since your root is so thick. However, you can interlock your hair to have the perfect retwist and avoid unravelling. Again depends on what you view perfect as, right?!

3) Takes longer for your hair to dry.

4) Combining your locs causes shrinkage.

5) Takes longer to be able to achieve a ponytail (depends on your length)

6) Takes a longer time to wash your locs. You have to work your way into the locs, and scalp. Making sure that water saturates your hair, and that you break down the gunk and build up in your hair.

7)Things can get trapped in your hair.

8) Your hair can feel heavy, if you don’t wash the dirt out.

9) Harder to pull lint out of thicker locs.
